Mother’s Day

May 7, 2020

Ever wondered how Mother’s Day came to be? A day dedicated to a person who grows life, gives life and raises life. This coming from a mother herself. The role of a Mum is one that doesn’t come with a manual. It’s full of challenges, trials and tribulations. Everyday there’s something new and rewarding and at times, testing. Kids are professional testers. They know how to test your patience, test your tolerance and test your knowledge. But what surprises me most about being a Mum is how much they have taught me and continue to teach me.

It was way back in 1905 when a woman named Anna Jarvis campaigned to have an official day to honour mothers. Later in 1908 it was decided that it was to be celebrated on the second Sunday of May.

Since then the day is celebrated by different forms of mother figures whether it’s an adoptive mum, grandmother, auntie or sister.

I read a quote once that said, ‘Your greatest contribution to the universe may not be something you do, but someone you raise’.
